The expected age of entry to Aston University for a student is 18 years or over at the point of enrolment. Students who would turn 18 during the first term of their intended study may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Any students who would turn 18 after the first term of their intended study will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Students aged 21 years or over in the year of entry are deemed ‘mature students’. We welcome applications from this group of students.

All UCAS applications are subject to the UCAS Data Protection agreement, as described in the ‘Data Protection Act’ section of the on-line UCAS Application guide at /apply/guides06.html.

In addition, all applications to Aston University are covered under the Data Protection Act. The information in your application will only be used for admissions purposes and will form part of your student record if you accept a place. The information will be confidential between you, us and any other parties you have consented to as part of the application process (e.g. UCAS). However, we may have to release information to authorised outside agencies, such as the police or the Home Office, to prevent or detect fraud.

In line with the terms of the Data Protection Act, you are entitled to a copy of all your personal data held by us. All students will be required to present original academic and personal documentation at registration prior to starting their programme of study.

All documentation is then verified by University admissions staff. If any information relevant to your application is found to be fraudulent, inconsistent with your application or is missing, your application will be deemed void and your place with us will be cancelled.

Applicants may wish to apply for deferred entry at either undergraduate or postgraduate level. Aston University will usually consider such applications on the same basis as other applications but will send out correspondence in the year of application and not solely in the year of entry.

Applicants should explain the reason behind their decision to apply for deferred entry in their application.

In exceptional circumstances only, applicants may be accepted onto the second year of one of our undergraduate degree programmes. Applicants are expected to present strong evidence of their suitability in such circumstances.

Reflecting the high quality and professional integrity of our degree programmes, Aston University does not permit direct entry to the final year of any of its degrees.

The professional placement year is an integral part of many of our undergraduate degree programmes. As an International Student, you have the option of deciding (in your second year) whether you wish to undertake this placement year. The placement year is always the third year of an undergraduate degree.

Taking a placement year increases your degree programme by one year. If you do decide not to take a placement year, you will then proceed directly to the final year of your studies, thus completing your undergraduate degree in three years.
