Applying to UT Dallas as a Freshman

Applicants will be evaluated for admission and scholarship purposes as first-time freshmen if the students first enrollment at a college or university, excluding summer, will occur at UT Dallas within two years of graduating from high school. Applicants are still considered first-time freshmen if they earn college credit before high school graduation. Applicants completing coursework at a post-secondary institution after high school graduation should consulttransfer admission requirements.

Assured Admission Criteria

Assured admission is granted to first-time freshmen who have successfully completed the full Texas recommended college-track high school curriculum, and achieved a composite ACT score of 26 or greater, or a combined math and critical reading SAT score of 1270 or higher (or 1200 or higher for SAT exams administered prior to March 2016.) Assured admission course completion requirements include:

English Language Arts (4 credits)

Mathematics (4 credits, including Algebra II)

Science (4 credits)

Social Sciences (3 credits)

Language (2 in a single language other than English)

Fine Arts (1 credit in music, art, or drama)

Students from private schools and those outside the State of Texas will be considered for admission based on the same academic benchmarks listed above and a comparable high school curriculum.

Reviewed Admission Criteria

All applicants who do not meet the assured admission criteria will enter the reviewed admission process. Reviewed admission decisions are based on the applicants composite achievement profile, including:

High School Rank and GPA.

Strength of high school curriculum (e.g. Honors, AP, IB, dual credit.)

SAT-I or ACT scores.

Record of accomplishments, honors, awards, community service, work, etc.

Essay: Topic A (recommended essay topic on application).

Letters of Recommendation (suggested, but not required, and limited to a maximum of three).

Additional Requirements for International Applicants-English proficiency is required for all international student applicants from non-native English-speaking countries. The English proficiency requirement can be waived for students from countries whose government language is English and whose education has been in English.

Minimum approved test scores and accepted testing agencies are listed below:

TOEFL iBT (Internet Based): 80

TOEFL (Paper Based): 550

IELTS: 6.5

PTE: 67

English 112 (provided by ELS Language Centers): Pass

2. Freshman Applicants: Provide official, attested photocopies or certified copies of all high school transcripts, mark sheets or examination certificates showing the completion of 9th12th grade graduation equivalent with grades/marks earned. Submit an official copy of final examinations taken at the end of the secondary school program, such as GCE ordinary-level and advanced-level examinations, school leaving certificates and matriculation exams.

The international acceptable academic document reference sheet may assist in identifying required documents by country of origin.

3. If your documents are issued in a language other than English, you must submit a certified English translation of your academic documents. The translations must be from either the academic institution or from a certified translation company.

4. Pay the $50 non-refundable international credential fee (for applicants with transcripts, mark sheets or other academic credentials from international institutions).

Transfer Admission Requirements

Prospective Transfer Students

If you are a Texas community college student aspiring to transfer to UT Dallas, we encourage you to learn about the Comet Connection Program.

Applicants to The University of Texas Dallas who have previously completed college level coursework at an accredited institution (excluding the summer following high school graduation) will be reviewed for admission as a transfer student. UT Dallas welcomes applications for the fall, spring, and summer from students who have begun their college work and are in good standing at other institutions of higher education.

Assured Admission Criteria

Applicants are eligible for assured transfer admission by meeting all of the following criteria:

42 or more transferable credit hours.

A minimum cumulative transferable GPA of 2.7 or greater on a 4.0 scale.

Fewer than 90 cumulative attempted hours between all attended institutions of higher education.

Applicant must be in good standing with the last college or university attended.

Or

A Comet Connection member with a completed AA/AS/AAT.

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale.

Applicant must be in good standing with the last college or university attended.

Or

Qualify for admission under section 51.8035 of the Texas Education Code.

To take advantage of this option, the applicant must submit to UT Dallas information that expressly and clearly claims entitlement of admission under this section prior to the application deadline.

Reviewed Admission

All transfer applicants who do not meet the assured transfer admission criteria will enter the reviewed admission process. Applicants are required to submit all post-secondary academic course work and must be in good standing at the last college or university attended. Applicants may be required to submit the following additional documents:

Official high school transcript.

SAT/ACT scores.

Essay explaining educational history.
