English-based Degree Studies September Admission Program (EDESSA) AO Admission
You must meet one of the three requirements below.
1. You have graduated from a high school or a secondary school designated by Japans School Education Law or are scheduled to graduate from such a school by September 20, 2017.
2. You have completed a standard 12-year education curriculum designated by Japans School Education Law or are scheduled to complete such an education curriculum by September 20, 2017.
3. You are recognized as having or exceeding the academic abilities required in Section 150 of Japans Regulations of School Education Law by meeting or being scheduled to meet one of qualifications 1) to 6) below by September 20, 2017.
1) You have completed or are scheduled to complete a 12-year education curriculum outside Japan by September 20, 2017. Or, you have completed or are scheduled to complete an equivalent curriculum as designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (hereafter, the Minister of MEXT). [See NOTE below.]
NOTE:
In 1) above, having completed a 12-year education curriculum outside Japan refers to those who have completed elementary and secondary school education through a standard process, whether in Japan or outside it, and who in the end graduated from a foreign secondary educational institution.
Having completed or being scheduled to complete the equivalent curriculum as designated by the Minister of MEXT in 1) above means that you meet one of qualifications a. to c. below, and are 18 years old or older as of September 20, 2017.
a. You have passed a qualification exam that proves you are equivalent to or higher in academic ability than those who have completed a 12-year education curriculum outside Japan.
b. You have completed a Japanese preparatory education curriculum designated by the Minister of MEXT after being educated in a country that has a less-than-12-year standard elementary and secondary school education curriculum.
c. You have completed an international school curriculum or a curriculum at a school for foreign students in Japan that is recognized in the foreign countrys school education system as being equivalent to or higher than a high school curriculum.
2) You have been designated as having skills appropriate for this school by the Minister of MEXT, meet one of the qualifications a. to e. below or are scheduled to meet one by September 20, 2017, and are 18 years old or older as of September 20, 2017.
a. You hold an International Baccalaureate diploma.
b. You hold an Abitur diploma.
c. You hold a Baccalaureate diploma.
d. You have passed an examination in one or more subjects at General Certificate of Education Advanced Level.
e. You have completed an international school course in Japan accredited by the Minister of MEXT.
3) You have completed the upper secondary course at a specialized training college designated by the Minister of MEXT after the date designated by the Minister of MEXT or are scheduled to complete the course by September 20, 2017. The specialized training college must have a course term of 3 or more years as well as meet the other requirements designated by the Minister of MEXT.
4) You have completed an education curriculum provided by Japanese educational institutions overseas designated by the Minister of MEXT as having an education curriculum equivalent to those provided by high schools in Japan, or are scheduled to complete such an education curriculum by September 20, 2017.
5) You have passed the high school equivalency examination (including the university entrance qualification examination) given by the Minister of MEXT or are scheduled to pass the examination by September 20, 2017, and are 18 years or older as of September 20, 2017.
6) You are 18 years old or older as of September 20, 2017, and are recognized through an individual review by Waseda University as being equivalent to or higher than a high school graduate in academic ability. [See III. Individual Review of Eligibility.]
NOTE:
If you skipped a grade or accelerated to complete a standard educational curriculum in less than 12 years and are younger than 18 years old as of entry into university, please be sure to contact the International Admissions Office, Waseda University, to inquire about your qualifications to apply for admission at least 3 weeks before filing an application.
If you have studied at schools both in and outside Japan, there is no requirement set for the periods during which you were registered at those schools. However, certificates of your academic results for the entire period during which you studied at secondary high school or its equivalent must be submitted.

【Preliminary Review of Eligibility】
All applicants are required to apply for a preliminary review of eligibility in the designated period. Only those who are acknowledged to be qualified based on the review by the School of Political Science and Economics will be allowed to apply for admission and will be eligible for document screening.
N.B.
● Students already enrolled in Waseda University are not eligible to apply for the EDESSA Admission by Transfer. Such students should apply for the EDESSA Admission by Change of Affiliation (September Entrance).
● Eligibility is not decided by nationality or length of period spent abroad.
To apply for admission, you must meet requirements (1) and (2) (or their equivalent) below.
(1) Educational background
(a) You are enrolled at a university (excluding junior colleges and community colleges) in or outside Japan. Furthermore,
i. you have completed or are scheduled to complete a total of 13 years or more of education, including elementary and secondary education, by September 20, 2017; and
ii. you have completed or are scheduled to complete a first year of education at a university by September 20, 2017.
* If you are taking a leave of absence at the time of application, please submit reason(s) for taking a leave of absence.
(b) You have obtained or are scheduled to obtain a total of 30 credits or more towards graduation* during or after your 13th year of education including elementary and secondary education by September 20, 2017.
* A total of 30 credits or more towards graduation indicates the standard number of credits obtained in the first year at Waseda University. Since the number of credits to be obtained in an academic year varies by university, it will be determined by the School of Political Science and Economics during the preliminary review of eligibility whether the number of credits you have obtained at your university suffices to meet this requirement. For more information, please inquire at the Office of the School of Political Science and Economics.
(2)English language proficiency
TOEFL (iBT) :100 points or above
TOEFL (PBT): 600 points or above
IELTS (Academic) :A score of 7.0 or above
● Please submit an original score card from one of the tests above.
● Scores taken before January 30, 2014, will be considered invalid.
● Scores must be submitted by the deadline. Note that even if the score cards are being sent directly from the organization that administered the examination, only those that arrive during the application period can be accepted. It often takes several weeks for test scores to reach their destination, so allow yourself sufficient time to obtain your test scores.
[The Waseda University code for requesting a TOEFL score sent to Waseda directly from ETS is 9342.]
If you submit a certificate of university entrance qualification examination/standardized test administered for an educational system in which the first language is English (SAT, ACT, GCE, IB taught in English, etc.), you are not required to submit a certificate related to your English proficiency.
N.B. If you take an IB program in Spanish or French, you are required to submit a score card from an English language proficiency test.

(2)英语语言能力
托福网考：100分或更高;托福纸考：600分或更高;雅思考试(学术)：7.0分或者更高标准。
● 请递交上述考试的原始成绩单;
● 2014年1月30日之前参加的考试，将被认为是无效成绩。
● 必须在截止时间之前递交考试成绩。需要注意的是，即使考试成绩是直接从举办考试的组织递交的，也只有在申请期间抵达的考试才会被接受。考试成绩抵达目的地通常需要几个星期的时间，所以请确保自己有足够的时间获得考试成绩。

入学申请表格、申请理由、毕业证书/预期毕业证明、学术成绩单、从最后就读学校的校长或者教职员工那里获得的推荐信、大学入学考试证书/标准化考试/日本大学国际学生招生考试(EJU)、有关你的英语语言能力的证书(托福考试、托业考试、雅思考试或者GEPT考试)、不是英语的外语语言能力证明、资金来源声明，等等。
