一、Requirements for Admission
Usually, the basic educational requirement for being accepted as a doctoral candidate is a degree with an excellent GPA awarded by an internationally recognized research university or equivalent academic institution. This degree has to be equivalent to a German Master's degree (or to a Magister, Diplom, or State Examination degree according to the pre-Bologna degree system).

International Office will evaluate international degrees and assess whether they can be considered equivalent to German university degrees. If the degree is not fully equal to a corresponding German degree, students may be given the opportunity to take selected classes and sit exams related to their field of research in order to gain full admittance to PhD studies at a later stage.
国际办公室对国际学位进行评估，看它们是否等同于德国大学学位。如果学位不完全等同于相应的德国学位，学生可以上选修课，参加相关研究领域考试，获得博士研究入学完全资格。
Doctoral candidates have to conduct their PhD project under the supervision of and in close cooperation with a professor (in German, the Doktorvater or Doktormutter). Thus, as already stated above, a RWTH professor must issue a written confirmation that he or she is willing to act as the candidate's supervisor (the so-called PhD Supervision Confirmation Form / Betreuungsbesttigung). Please note that a candidate may only apply for doctoral studies at RWTH Aachen University after having a written confirmation from the supervising professor.

The Doctoral Committee has three different evaluations it may give you.
1.Your technical background does not qualify you for doctoral studies. If this is the case, you cannot complete doctoral studies in the selected subject at RWTH Aachen.
2.Your technical background qualified you for unrestricted doctoral studies. In this case, you can immediately begin the doctoral studies process.

3.Your technical background only conditionally qualifies you for doctoral studies. In this case, the Doctoral Commitee sets requirements that you have to fulfill before your dissertation will be accepted. These requirements typically include taking seminars that are completed upon successful exam results. 二、Recognition of International Degrees
As a prerequisite for taking up doctoral studies and/or employment at RWTH Aachen University, your degree will be assessed by Division 2.1 of the International Office, a procedure which serves to ascertain whether your degree is equivalent to a German university degree. If you wish to take up employment, the expert opinion on your degree will be submitted to the Human Resources Office, and a copy will be sent to the institute or chair that intends to employ you. Please contact our staff for further information and, if necessary, to arrange an appointment.

1.The employment invitation of the RWTH institution that offers you a position (if applicable)
2.Your CV (personal data sheet)
3.Copy of your university degree certificate
4.Certified translation (into English or German) of your university degree certificate
5.Copy of academic records listing the subjects studies as well as grades (transcripts)
6.Certified translation of transcripts into German or English
[this only applies for applicants from China: Certificate of Authenticity (Echtheitsbesttigung) by the Academic Acknowledgement Bureau in Beijing for all submitted university certificates].

三、Applying for Doctoral Studies
When applying for doctoral studies at RWTH Aachen University, please submit the following documents to the International Office:
1.Application Form, completely filled in and signed
2.Statement from the RWTH Professor who is willing to supervise your doctoral research project PhD: Confirmation of Supervison
3.Tabular CV

9.For applicants from China: Certificate of Authenticity (Echtheitsbesttigung) issued by the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) in Beijing for all submitted university certificates
Upon approval of your application, the International Office will send you a letter of acceptance.

Please note
If you wish to be enrolled as a doctoral candidate later on at RWTH Aachen, you must submit your original university diplomas and certificates to the International Office. Please remember to bring your original university documents with you to Germany.

四、Enrollment for Internationals
After admission, you must provide the following documents for enrolment.
1.A valid passport. EU citizens can alternatively present their identity card.
2.Letter of admission to RWTH Aachen
3.Original Bachelors and Masters degree certificates or certificates for equivalent degrees
4.Translations of your degree certificates and academic record/transcript with grades, translated by a certified translator recognized by the Germany Embassy or Consulate in your home country. The translation agency can be located in Germany as well.

5.If demanded by your supervisor: Originals of your language certificates.
a) If your dissertation is written in German: Deutsche Sprachprfung fr den Hochschulzugang, DSH, or: Test fr Deutsch als Fremdsprache, TestDaF, or an equivalent language certificate.
b) If your dissertation is written in English: International English Language Testing System, IELTS for short, with a grade of 6.0 or higher; or: Test of English as Foreign Language, with at least 80 IBT or 550 PBT points; or: Certificate in Advanced English, CAE.
5.如果导师要求，还要出具语言证书原件。
A.对于论文语言为德语的，要出具Deutsche Sprachprfung fr den Hochschulzugang, DSH或Test fr Deutsch als Fremdsprache, TestDaF或等同语言证书
B.对于论文语言为英语的，要出具雅思成绩(分数6.0及以上)，或托福(互联网版不低于80分、纸质版不低于550分)，或高级英语证书。
6.Evidence of your health insurance from a public Germany health insurance provider. If you have taken out sufficient health insurance in your home country or a private insurance covering your stay in Germany, one of the public insurance providers must provide you with a written confirmation of exemption from taking out a German health insurance. Please note: without presenting this written confirmation, you cannot be enrolled at RWTH Aachen.
6.德国公共医疗保险机构开具的医疗保险证明。如果你已经在自己国家投保，或已经有涵盖你在德国居留的私人保险，保险提供方必须给你开具书面同意，表明你不用再德国投保。请注意：没有保险书面同意，不能注册亚琛工业大学。
7.If you were enrolled at a German university in the past: Proof of de-enrollment or exmatriculation from this university
8.If your letter of admission included a list of missing documents still to be submitted or presented, such as language certificates or academic records, please provide these documents
9.The original written confirmation by your doctoral supervisor that he or she is willing to supervise your doctoral thesis
7.对于过去在德国大学注册过的，要出具大学注销证明。
8.如果录取通知书上包含有有待提交或出具的文件，比如语言证明和成绩单，请提供相应文件。
9.博士导师的书面同意原件，表明他或她愿意做的博士论文导师。
Please note that all these documents must be submitted to or presented at the International Office before you can be enrolled for PhD study.
